My trio, Madigan’s Attic, will be recording some videos from our weekly rehearsals in Bob’s living room. Here’s the first one with Bob singing lead: Paul Simon’s, “Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard.” Next week we might release one for the Tiny Desk Contest. Stay tuned.
And on to the new year…
Happy New Year! I took a bit of a hiatus over the holidays and had my first gig in almost a month last night (at Younger’s Irish Tavern in Romeo with Brothers Inc). Now it’s back to a more normal schedule and my gig calendar is starting to fill up nicely.
Here is our opening song from last night’s show. Someone had knocked my camera after it was set up, so it has a certain “Batman” feel to it and we only get glimpses of Josh (playing guitar just off camera).
And here is a cover of Just Like Heaven–my second favorite Cure song–recorded by Darlene Shaughnessy.
Next up is a solo show at one of my favorite places to play, North Center Brewing Company in Northville. Hope to see some familiar faces.
Thanks
A big thanks to everyone who made our CD release so fun and successful. We had a great time. For those who missed it, here are a few clips (which include a couple of special guests).
New CD on the way!
Six and the Sevens will be releasing a new CD on November 23 called It Has to be That Way. It includes six songs, which either makes it a short LP or a long EP. Whatever you call it, it’s done and we’re extremely happy with it. It’s been a while in the making. We recorded the first four songs at Ghetto with Jim Diamond right before he bolted to France. We though about releasing a four song EP, but we were still working on more songs.
After much discussion and some scheduling issues, we ended up at RV Audio Lab with Zach Shipps to record to more songs. From there, Zach mastered them (masterfully) and now we’re done. The CD release party will be at the very cool Cadiuex Cafe in Detroit on November 23. You won’t want to miss the show!
Track list for the CD
- Nothing to Say
- Go Go Go
- You Belong to Me
- Come on Home
- Look at Myself
- By My Side
I’ve listened to it a ton over the last few weeks and I can’t say that I have a favorite. You’ll have to listen for yourself and tell me what you think.
Welcome
I get a lot of questions about my music. Do you play in a band? How many bands to you play in? When are you playing? How can I find you online? Which is really cool (that people ask), but I always end up with a convoluted answer. Well, I decided to set a place aside where all of my music projects (along with gig dates, links, etc.) could be found. I hope you like some of what you find here and I hope that I’m able to add a lot more music and content in the years to come.
